WALTER BAHR TO BE GUEST OF HONOR

Our 63rd annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 (5:00 TO 10:00) at Cannstatter Volkfest-Verein,9031 Academy Road, Philadelphia PA 19114. The evening features a new class being inducted into the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame, along with numerous awards honoring excellence in and dedication to the game of soccer.

But what makes this banquet a special event is that we will be honoring the most recognizable name in soccer history: Mr. Walter Bahr. Mr. Bahr has arguably the most extensive resume in the world of soccer. He was a highly successful coach at Frankford High School, Templeand Penn State Universities, and professionally with the Philadelphia Spartans and Philadelphia Ukrainians. However he is most noted for his playing career where he excelled at every level, including the 1948 Olympics and the 1950 World Cup. In that World Cup, Walt Bahr assisted on the goal that led to the greatest upset in World Cup history as the United States defeated England, 1-0. On June 12, the United States plays England in the 2010 World Cup, and this will mark the 60th anniversary the historic win.

We are expecting a large crowd for this banquet, so we suggest that TICKETS are purchased early. We now offer the ability to purchase tickets on-line using TicketLeap.

On Saturday, August 29, 2009 the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame hosted its first ever high school tournament at the Parkwood Soccer Complex in Northeast Philadelphia. The tournament was designed to give boys and girls high school teams the opportunity to play some competitive, pre-season matches in a tournament setting. Girls teams included: Germantown Academy, St. Basil, Boyertown, and Perkiomen Valley. The boys tournament consisted of Father Judge Varsity, Chestnut Hill Academy, Hatboro Horsham, and Father Judge JV. After three well played, round-robin games, the tournament winners were: Girls: Boyertown High School and for the boys, Father Judge High School Varsity. The winning teams received the first ever Hall of Fame Tournament Crystal Trophy. But the day was not about winning, rather it was for the players to kick off their season with a positive experience. All players were given commemorative tournament shirts and were also provided lunch. The Hall of Fame intends to make this a yearly tradition, and next August will invite eight new teams to the tournament.
