RE: Philadelphia 2026 World Cup Bid Announcement
Philadelphia is one of 17 cities actively bidding to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The United States, along with Mexico and Canada were awarded the event, and the US will have 10 cities hosting games.
As we’ve been in holding pattern for the last few months, I’m pleased to announce some exciting news as we kick start our bid today. Philadelphia Soccer 2026, the official World Cup bid committee, chaired by David L. Cohen Senior Executive Vice President of the Comcast Corporation, has announced an all-star line up to serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of the committee to champion Philadelphia to FIFA, US Soccer and the world:
- Carli Lloyd, midfielder of the US Women’s National Team and Sky Blue FC
- Julie Ertz, midfielder of the US Women’s National Team and Chicago Red Stars
- Zach Ertz, tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles
- Alejandro Bedoya, midfielder and captain of the Philadelphia Union and former US Men’s National Team
I’m proud to say that Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer is a founding partner of the Philly 2026 FIFA World Cup bid committee along with the Philadelphia Union, Philadelphia Eagles, The City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. They all know the power and influence of our soccer community and how we can rally behind this opportunity that will change the trajectory of our sport for generations.
Today, we need you to help us get FIFA’s attention and make our mark. We need your help and your voice! Please help us in welcoming these amazing athletes to our bid committee by promoting this exciting news on social media.
Also, we need to you to help promote the bid throughout the year. We’ve created a tool kit for you with digital banner ads, yard signs, hashtags and other links that you can use to promote the bid to your membership and beyond. These assets along with suggested uses can all be found on our website.
And may I recommend that you check out this exciting video promoting Philadelphia and why we are ready and more than capable of hosting the greatest sporting event in the world at Lincoln Financial Field.
